Tips To Make Sure Your Kids Have a Healthy Smile

Taking care of your own dental health is hard enough much less taking care of your kid’s dental health. This is why it is so important to get your kids practicing good hygiene from a young age. This will ensure by the time they grow up, they will have a beautiful smile they can be proud of.

To help make your life easier, our Torrance dentist team has compiled a list of tips you can use to help your kids practice good dental hygiene.

Ease Up on The Sugar

Tips To Make Sure Your Kids Have a Healthy Smile

Soda. We all know it and we all hate to love it. It is packed full of copious amounts of sugar and the carbonation in the drinks wreak havoc on our dental health. While it is common knowledge to avoid this sugary drink, alternatives such as fruit juices and sports drinks can be just as damaging.

Fruit juice and sports drinks often times include high amounts of sugar that can quickly erode the enamel on your children’s teeth. These sugary drinks are a favorite among many children, so having your child cut down might not be the easiest task. This being said, this is the best thing you can do to help them maintain good strong teeth for the future.

Be An Example

Children take cues from you more than you may think, especially when it comes to things like brushing and flossing. When it comes to dental care, you really have to set a good example for your kids and practice what you preach.

Try to align your dental care routine with your children. If your mornings are too hectic, try brushing and flossing your teeth together at night before bed. This can be a fun activity your entire family does together, and plus you’ll be able to check if your kid is taking shortcuts.

Remember, you should brush your teeth for a minimum of two minutes. It is important to cover all areas of your teeth as well as clean your tongue. When you floss be sure to get every tooth. Taking any shortcuts is the first step to dental decay and setting a poor example for your kids.

Also, if your child is under the age of 2, you should be brushing and flossing their teeth for them.

Schedule Regular Dental Check-ups

When it comes to dental appointments, the sooner you start the better. It is important to establish dental visits as a fun and positive experience early on. This will allow doctors to detect any cavities or problems sooner rather than later.

Here at Select Dental & Orthodontics, we do our best to establish a trusted, professional, family-friendly environment. At this Torrance dentist group, we understand that dental visits can be stressful. This is why we work with each of our clients to schedule appointments that fit their busy schedules. Additionally, this Torrance dentist group also works with children and adults to create a dental practice the entire family can be a part of.
